I am a graduate of Northern Illinois University, my last degree being a doctorate in American History. I also majored in chemistry at the University of Illinois and science at DePaul University. I tutor students in history, mathematics, sciences and English, and English as a second language. I have tutored students for the last seven years. I consider the most important part of tutoring is ascertaining the student's level of understanding, and proceeding from there. I do like to see them work, rather than listen to me. I would say observation and encouragement, followed by assistance is the mode I prefer. I am a semi-retired teacher so I do bring thirty years of teaching experience along. I have no preferred subject, though I do enjoy observing a student grasping a subject which was not her/his favorite, but now perhaps is. It is quite rewarding to see that occur and realize you were a part of it.
Away from the tutoring I still perform historical characters at local living history presentations with, violin and dance. I enjoy painting as well.
