I was a terrible student as a kid. In fact, it wasn't until I started college in 2005 (at the age of 25, as a parent), that I really developed into the exceptional student I became. Partly because I wanted to show my daughter a model of academic success, and partly because I wanted to prove to myself that I could. I graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver in 2008 (a year early, and with honors) with a BA in History and a minor in Secondary Education. Since then, I have worked not only in the field of education, but also in the oil and gas industry, which offered a great many opportunities for professional growth. But teaching has always been my first and truest professional love.
As a long time substitute teacher, I have been fortunate enough to experience the learning process with a very wide range of students, with an even wider range of needs and strengths.
While this has afforded me the chance to teach a great many subjects, my favorite, of course, is Social Studies. Teaching young people about the world around them and how it works is something I consider to be a sacred duty, for a nation is only great when its citizens are too, and a Social Studies Teacher is in a unique position to be able to help mold the best and most knowledgeable citizens. I teat teaching and tutoring according to that duty, and make it my goal to exhaust every resource for the good of the student, whatever his or her needs may be.
Outside of teaching and studying History, I am an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and was so excited to take my oldest child on her first backpacking trip over this last summer! Additionally, I have started learning to play guitar (with very modest success so far), as I have always wanted to do so and believe in the importance of always learning something new.
