I am a graduate from SUNY Stony Brook with a B.S. in Chemistry and a minor in Japanese, and I have been teaching for more than 4 years now. I especially love teaching the sciences like biology, chemistry and physics, and I have served as an MCAT tutor for the past 3 years now and as a SAT II tutor as well. I teach both science and math at a private after-school and I tutor both online here at Varsity Tutors and off-line at a private tutoring center. In addition to my science tutoring, I also teach ESL to international students on the side and can serve to improve your writing abilities as well. As of now, I am working toward a teaching credential in both chemistry and ESL for placement into a public high school.
My teaching philosophy is simply centered on active engagement with my students and helping them to relate real-life applications with the concepts that they learn on a standard 2D textbook. Without being able to connect to situations that students can relate to, I believe that learning content becomes difficult. Bridging that divide is a strong personal ability of mine.
In terms of my hobbies, I love gardening, playing chess, tea and tea culture, learning new recipes and just taking long trips to the beautiful mountains and beaches that Southern California has to offer!
