The most important lesson I've learned from tutoring is that both the student and the teacher need to be receptive to teaching. Students need to do their best to learn from their teachers, and teachers have to actively learn what works for the student being taught and what does not. I teach through this thought process, and my goal as a teacher is to use concise, meaningful ways that really get to my students in order to help each one achieve academic and personal success.
Tutoring for me is not just about helping my student get a good grade on an exam, but rather its true value lies in boosting my pupil's confidence. Many students feel that they are simply not cut out to understand material, and this feeling is the actual block to learning. My students should and will know this fear is just not true, and I make it my mission to prove it by the time the session is over. I will show them that they came in daunted, and they finished solving the problems that originally intimidated them. There is no room for doubt in academics or in life, and I will do my part for my students as best I can.
