I received my BA from Baylor University. I had a double major in Biology & Mathematics. After graduating, I started teaching & found out how much I loved working with students. I took all the education courses to become a teacher, giving me a third major. Later I received my MS in Biology from the University of New Mexico. I have taught math and biology courses in middle school, high school and college. My favorite subject to tutor is Algebra. It is so exciting to see students begin to apply the math skills they learned in elementary school to a logical analysis of complicated problems. However, my first love is biology. When students get excited about how living things are "put together" and how they all interact, the learning process becomes fun, interesting and event thrilling.
My tutoring style could best be described as a team effort. The student and I team up to discover his/her strengths and weaknesses and then build on those strengths to provide a success base in the subject we are exploring.
When I am not teaching or tutoring, I love to cook, sew, and read. All kinds of sewing---knitting, crocheting, making doll clothes, quilting---fascinate me. Cooking new and different dishes allows me to find out about different people and their cultures. I love to read just about anything. My current favorites are mysteries, biographies, and science fantasy.
