I began tutoring shortly after graduating from Fairfield High School in 2002. I worked with the AVID program at Armijo High School for four years. I tutored students mainly in mathematics, but I also helped with some science questions and English essays. I spent one year with the AVID program at Will C. Wood High School, and I also tutored for several months at Buckingham Charter School. I spent 2 years doing private tutoring in mathematics for a student in Vacaville. I also tutored my now sister-in-laws in various subjects, aiding one in passing the CAHSEE (My oldest sister-in-law has a learning disability and really struggled with the mathematics on the test). I was part of the MESA (Math Engineering and Science Achievement) Program at Solano Community College. A few fellow students and I started a club that brought science lessons to Cleo Gordon Elementary School. Each week we would demonstrate various science experiments in hopes of encouraging the students to find an interest in the STEM field. In the year 2010-11 I worked at Dixon High school tutoring students at an after school program and advising students about higher education. As a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis, I spent several hours in a classroom setting doing various internships. At Dixon High School I also completed 30 classroom hours in the geometry class. These were low-level geometry students. I taught a lesson on geometric shapes and angle theorems. I worked at Padan Elementary School in Vacaville for 20 classroom hours, working with 6th graders. I taught a math class on adding and subtracting positive and negative integers. I worked at Dan O. Root Elementary School in a kindergarten/first grade classroom. I worked with students on math facts. As a previous resident in Japan for a year, I taught high school students basic English communication and grammar. I lesson planned for my English classes and worked with a Japanese Teacher of English to help communicate lesson goals. My classes were often taught primarily in English. I incorporated games and PowerPoint presentations to help engage the students and provided a comfortable and more relaxing setting. I started an English club to help provide students opportunities to use English outside of the classroom.
