I am a recent graduate from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Sciences and a minor in History. I hope to matriculate into medical school in the future. My passion for sharing math and science knowledge, as well as learning from students coming from diverse backgrounds, has made me open-minded and flexible in regards to teaching styles. I began devoting countless hours to tutoring in high school, helping my classmates in algebra, chemistry, and critical essay writing for AP exams. Knowing that I could make a difference, throughout college I worked for the NYC Department of Education programs as a tutor to elementary and middle school children struggling in Math and ELA in Brooklyn. I focused on improving the reading and writing skills of non-native English speakers. Through translations, grammar resources and individualized math self-assessments, my tutees were able to succeed on citywide exams. I can cater to a variety of clients; I have worked with elementary level students learning basic plant structures and shapes, with middle school children in summer camps creating their own experiments, and as a private math/science tutor to high school students struggling in biology, chemistry, and physics courses. Above all, I try to create an environment that is engaging and sparks the curiosity of the student.
I firmly believe in a holistic approach whilst tutoring students. That is, figuring out what tactics work for them, managing their timing skills in test settings, and working on analytical styles during problem solving. Watching students advance through grades is only part of the big picture. My approach is to identify the weaknesses of the student, present them with various methods of approaching problems, and provide them with sufficient practice and resources to overcome what they once thought was a feat. Thus, each student develops his or her own system with confidence. Although I tutor an expansive range of subjects, my passion and strengths lie in the Math, Sciences, and preliminary Standardized Test areas. As a History minor with ample research and writing experiences, I am also interested in helping students with critical reading and writing. I cater to tutees so they can work towards a journey of self-mastery. I look forward to helping students not only succeed but also exude a sense of optimism and appreciation in the value of education, something that they can carry with them through character into the future.
