I am a graduate of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Music (including some Music Education coursework) and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, both in 2008. I enjoy working with students of all ages, as a private music teacher and as a tutor in Math, English, and Science. I love information and learning in all subject areas, which creates a positive tone in my tutoring sessions. I aim to inspire joy for learning as I teach.
My philosophy? I assess the student's understanding of the material in comparison to the expectations of the student in the classroom. I build a unique relationship with each student to meet them where they are - a relationship that builds skill and confidence. I believe everybody struggles with academics at some time, so we are going to focus on working toward success and improvement. I bring this empathetic approach to my interactions by breaking down the material in a way that it can be mastered step by step. My core value is that competence breeds confidence - and confidence creates momentum and positive feelings toward the subject, leading to improved grades and enjoyment at school.
In my free time, I enjoy playing and recording music (cello, bass guitar, guitar, drums, and singing). Hiking and photography have been my latest hobbies. I have a broad range of recreational experience to draw from including rafting, motocross, mountain biking, rock climbing, jet skiing and snowboarding. I like to learn about a student's hobbies and interests because it is a good way to relate school subjects to life experiences.
