I am a librarian whose background is in literature, writing, and research. The fields that interest me the most are reading and writing. Writing has always been my strongest field to tutor, as I have often, since high school, acted as an editor for students and friends.
My prime enjoyment is helping students understand how to deliver a solid, well-supported, written piece, to help them see what makes a piece of writing work, how it should be structured, how it should sound, what its effect should be on the reader.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi, where I focused on creative writing, and a Master's in Library and Information Study from the University of Alabama. Unsurprisingly, I enjoy reading, writing, literature and film analysis, as well as learning as a hobby. I bike and jog as well as play games.
I believe in teaching each student by focusing on what they need to know and what they know already. Knowledge does not exist in a vacuum. We learn things for reasons, either for curiosity, for improvement, or for a test. Every student is different and so I prefer to approach new pupils individually, to see their learning style and habits, to understand what they are trying to learn and why, and then to help them bridge the gap between what they know and what they want to know.
