I hold a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Cultural Studies from Claremont Graduate University, where I focused on American literature and history. I also earned a B.A. from the University of Southern California; I double-majored in English and International Relations. For the past 15 years, I have taught courses at various universities in Southern California. The courses I have taught include both beginning and advanced composition, as well as courses involving critical thinking about such topics as literature, history, critical theory, and visual culture.
My experience equips me to tutor students in all levels of English, helping them with writing, reading, and critical-thinking. I can assist students in all of their classes by helping them to improve their organization, argumentation, grammar, and vocabulary. I can work with more advanced students (such as those preparing for the SAT and AP exams) in honing their analytical reading skills and developing more in-depth essays. I can also tutor students in American history and social studies. Further, I am adept at teaching any subjects related to diversity and multiculturalism.
When I have free time, I train for triathlons and half-marathons, which I started doing in the past few years. I also love listening to music, reading, and writing.
