I graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Spanish Language and Literature and a minor in Practice of Art. During my undergrad career, I studied abroad in Spain for one semester where I enrolled in an academy called Canterbury English where I taught English as a foreign language to young Spanish children. Additionally, I worked as a tutor in the AVID program at Toll middle school where I focused on a number of subjects including algebra/pre-algebra, english, history, and Spanish. Though I enjoy tutoring all levels of Spanish language and literature, I also specialize in AP Studio art (drawing and painting), essay writing and editing, elementary reading and math. I believe that every student has a unique learning style and it is important to recognize that and be able to communicate with my students in the most clear and concise way possible in order to maximize the entire learning experience for the student and aid them to reach their full potential. Aside from learning, I really enjoy painting and making art, traveling and eating delicious food.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Every student has a unique style of learning, and it is important for teachers and students to recognize that and communicate with them accordingly.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would get to know the student a little bit, both on a personal and academic level. For example, I like to know their hobbies and interests and their relationship with academia. Next, I like to focus on the subjects at hand to assess where they stand.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I like to teach them learning strategies and critical thinking rather than focusing only on the given subject.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would give him or her positive reinforcement and maintain a fun learning environment.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would present alternative methods to teach the said skill or subject. It's best to connect the ideas to concepts that the student is already familiar and comfortable with for them to apply similar thinking skills.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I like to have them tell the story back to me in their own words, or I explain it back to them. I also think it's important to understand main ideas and themes.
