How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I like to encourage my students to challenge themselves. When they do this, it opens the door to independent thinking and research.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I provide ongoing encouragement, and I celebrate the small achievements as well as the big ones.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
In the event a student is having difficulty learning something, I will take them back to the basics and build from there. This will allow them to achieve small goals, thus, motivating them further to grasp old and new skills.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would assess their weaknesses and strengths. Once identified, we will work together to master the skills.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
To make sure a student understands the material, I would go over key points with them and then quiz them. We would go over the questions and answers, and I would have the student explain to me in their own words which answers are wrong and right and why.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I like to go over what the student is learning and then have them take an assessment questionnaire.
What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe each and every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. I will help children to develop their potential by believing in them as capable individuals. I will assist children in discovering who they are, so they can express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas. I have a vision of a world where people learn to respect, accept, and embrace the differences between us, as the core of what makes life so fascinating.
