I graduated from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor’s degree in English. While in Houston, I completed my Master’s degree in Education from the University of Houston, where I concentrated in Curriculum and Instruction/Instructional Technology. I have spent the majority of my career teaching and I have taught in almost every grade level of the K-12 classroom. My last teaching experience was at the college level, where I spent over seven years as a course director designing classes and instruction for adult learners. I discovered my passion for teaching while studying English in college. I felt a deep connection to the literature that I was reading (American Lit) and I found it easy to analyze and discuss it. There is something about the study of English language that has drawn me in and I have found that it is still my favorite subject to tutor. Although I still enjoy reading, I spend most of my free time analyzing music (specifically hip-hop) and film. I love the connection that comes from working with students one-on one and I try to motivate and inspire the students with whom I have been called upon to work. Although I am a firm proponent of education, I do not feel that the majority of a person’s education should take place in the classroom. I believe that it is important for each individual to take ownership of his or her intellectual growth and discover and develop intrinsically. My hobbies and practices include meditation, yoga, and crystal collecting.
