I'm passionate about improving students' reading comprehension and fluency, writing skills, vocabulary, grammar, study skills, and general academic confidence!
I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in English (with Honors) and Vocal Performance. After graduating, I moved to Florida to be an AmeriCorps volunteer, teaching English and Music at a high-need middle school. I developed my own Word Study curriculum to assist 6-8 grade students with vocabulary, grammar, and writing. I also tutored small groups of struggling students after school hours. After two years of teaching, I returned to the Midwest and became the site director at a before- and after-school program, planning educational and recreational activities and assisting elementary students with homework. That same year, I became a private tutor, helping a seventh-grade student with all subjects, but focusing on Language Arts.
I believe that students succeed once they embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, rather than viewing them as obstacles. My tutoring methods embrace this philosophy; I facilitate success in students, but they are the ones who achieve improvement! My favorite areas to tutor are all Language Arts areas, and History/Social Studies. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, singing, playing piano and ukulele, running, and playing tennis and softball.
