I have an associate's degree in Mathematics from Bronx Community College. I double majored in Psychology and Mathematics for my bachelor's degree and graduated from Lehman College. I also have a master's in education from City College.
I tutored at the college level in math when I was in college, and I taught in New York city elementary math for four years. I tutor mathematics subjects: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Elementary math, and Pre-Calculus.
I know what makes me a great tutor is my ability to teach others problem solving skills. I am very knowledgeable showing multiple techniques to problem solving difficult problems. I will encourage you to develop your mathematical power and set the foundations for learning new skills and ability to use models. I teach using the show and tell approach, and I've used problem based tasks. I encourage and motivate others to explore different ways to arrive at a solution to help identify what technique works for them. I am very organized tutor. I prioritize tasks and use critical thinking skills every day.
I always make sure students are mentally prepared for the work by giving mini lessons on techniques for the problems to make sure the task is understood. I establish the expectations and procedures and have the student show work that helps them later go back and find their mistake and check their work. I provide hints but not solutions to solving problems. I encourage the testing of ideas and listen actively to what students say.
