I seek opportunities to explore, teach, and inspire others in life sciences. The life sciences can be a difficult field to gain an understanding. It is my hope to open doors for others to understand themselves and the environment that they live in. I started my study of biology in Palm Beach at Palm Beach Atlantic University, where I studied cellular and molecular biology, as well as botany and microbiology. After receiving my B.S. in molecular biology, I enrolled in graduate school to attain my Ph.D. at the Max Plank Institute in Florida. My Ph.D. was awarded by Florida Atlantic University. The Ph.D. program that I studied in was called Integrative Biology. It had an emphasis in using biochemical, physical, and cellular biology approaches to understand how the brain works and matures. After completing my dissertation in neuroscience, I moved to San Francisco to be a Postdoctoral Fellow at UCSF. My career has taken me to national and international conferences where I have had the privilege to public speak about the projects that I have studied in biology.
Because I have studied a variety of concentrations, I enjoy tutoring basic biology subjects, such as cellular biology, genetics, botany, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, ecology, and environmental sciences. I am an expert in the fields of neurobiology and neuroscience. I enjoy teaching these subjects because I love to see students understand concepts about their own health and how their bodies work. When students understand important biological concepts, they know themselves better. I also enjoy teaching public speaking because it is such an important skill to use in diverse settings.
I have been tutoring for eight years. I have taught primary school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. My teaching style consists of building a strong foundation of concepts in a subject and then expanding on it. If a student has the concept in their mind, they can achieve understanding and not have to memorize ideas. When they have understanding, they can apply ideas to solve problems. I find this is crucial to learning.
Outside of teaching, I really enjoy being outdoors. Nature is so important to learn about, but it is also important to experience it for yourself.
