I currently work as a Sign Language Interpreter, and have been professionally interpreting for over two years. Prior to Sign Language, my passion was writing. I was majoring in English and successfully had my foot in the door, so to speak, when I connected with two professors who were able to get some of my writing published. It seemed clear that I was heading towards a tangible goal, but there was something missing. It was then that I found the Deaf community and fell in love with it and their language. I finished a 2 year Interpreting Training Program, which I followed up with a 1 year internship at Mt. San Antonio College. In keeping with the Deaf community, I started meeting aspiring interpreters and realized I love helping them reach their goals. I started tutoring and have found it to be a successful and rewarding process. My favorite subjects to tutor are ASL and English (elementary-college levels) simply because they are my passions, but I am able to tutor a variety of subjects that fit student's needs. I had a student studying sign language last semester, and was struggling quite a bit. That student passed the class with an A after we met twice a week during that semester. I also had a student taking a college algebra course, and told me that math "just wasn't their thing." I hear that a lot, and believe me, I understand. I have picked up some great techniques with different levels of math, that have made it not only easy to understand...but it turned out to be fun! That particular student also passed their class with an A.
Some students want to improve their skills, others just find certain subjects interesting. Whatever your goals are, I am excited to help you achieve them!
