I obtained my undergraduate degrees in both pure mathematics and physics from NC State University. I've had several great and prestigious internships in the sciences which include Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and MIT's Lincoln Labs. I later obtained my Master's in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering in 2010. I currently work as a research engineer for 3M headquarters. I gained tutoring experience working my way through graduate school tutoring physics and math at both the high school and university levels. I also gained experience with SAT/ACT/MCAT prep courses. I'm proud to say a few of my former students have gone on to gained admissions to prestigious military academies such as West Point and medical schools. My hobbies include drawing, guitar, shooting pool, and travel.
My philosophy of tutoring math and science is to learn by being hands on and by examples. I try my best to let my students know it's ok to ask questions and that now, in tutoring, is the time get an answer wrong. I'd rather them get it wrong now so we can work on it rather than later during an exam! I don't give out answers and I like for students to try to work problems on their own before I step in. I'm the type tutor that will question my students thinking because I want them to explain their thinking. This helps them build confidence in their answers and that they truly understand the material. My ultimate goal is to get my students to be confident, independent thinkers and working on their own.
