I graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Randolph-Macon College, a liberal arts school in Virginia. I moved to New York to participate in a year-long Americorps program where I tutored, mentored and organized an after-school program at an elementary school in East Harlem. I also worked in the classroom in both a kindergarden and third grade class. I am currently nearing the end of my Master's program in Early Childhood Education at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY. I will be certified to teach in the areas of birth to second grade, first to sixth grade as well as Special Education. I have a 3.5 GPA and will be ready to student teach in the Spring of 2015. I recall the pressure I felt about achieving academically, and I've tailored my tutoring style to reflect a low-anxiety, fun environment where any question is a good question and positivity is encouraged and reinforced. I love vinyasa yoga, snorkeling, painting in watercolors, art history, reading for pleasure and exploring new neighborhoods in New York!
