I taught writing courses for three years at Cornell University, where I received my MFA in Creative Writing. I have also spent time tutoring high-school students in writing and test prep. Through both these experiences, I’ve learned the importance of forging a personal connection with students and seeing things from their point of view. Rather than delivering prepackaged information, I try to engage students in a dialogue: They tell me what they’re interested in, and what their favorite (and least favorite) aspects of school are. I use this information to create a personalized strategy to help them succeed.
While I tutor a range of subjects, I'm most passionate about those areas that involve writing and language--whether I'm helping students write personal essays for their college applications or preparing them for the Verbal Reasoning section of the GRE. I strongly believe that the ability to write clearly and effectively is a vital skill in today's world, and I enjoy helping students master it. When I'm not busy tutoring, I enjoy hiking, traveling, and playing guitar, and I'm currently working on a novel.
