I graduated in 2013 with a B.S. in Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. While I was there I was employed by the university-run Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) as a math and physics tutor. At CLAS my duties included several hours a week of providing one-on-one help to anyone in a lower-division physics or math class, as well as leading optional extra sections for classes in linear algebra, differential equations, and introductory physics.

After graduating I continued to tutor, but expanded my subjects to include chemistry and test prep. Accompanying this change was a change in clientele to include several high school students, as well as students from elementary-level algebra and fractions to graduates preparing for the GRE.

I most enjoy helping the students who are interested in physical science or math; this subject is to me very beautiful and deep, and I love seeing the feeling of wonder that often accompanies making a connection between previously disparate ideas. I also enjoy aiding students in their preparation for taking standardized tests, but only because I suffer from a mostly useless knack for such tests, and helping soon-to-be test takers learn the logic of such tests is the only way I can constructively utilize this skill.

My approach to all of the subjects I teach can be described as fundamental: I like to work from the bottom up, building logical ties between concepts and learning how to compute results from them in favor of rote memorization of formulas, principles, and the like. This is perhaps part of a wider philosophy of mine, which results in such simple hobbies as hiking, sailing, and reading books. My voracious reading habit is also a symptom of burning curiosity of how the world works, and how we might manipulate it. I leave you with a relevant quote from Dorothy Parker:

"The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity."
