Currently, I am double majoring in Theatre and in Mathematics at Arizona State University. I have been tutoring math for 4 years now, as well as a variety of other college courses. This is due to tutoring a student with Down syndrome here at ASU for the last 2 years, during which I would assist him with his assignments and tests in those subjects. However, despite this variety, my tutoring loves are math and history.
My tutoring style varies from student to student (and often with the subject). For math, I often give some overview of the concept, theoretically and visually, then move into application and practice. I feel it is important for a student to understand why the concept is introduced and where we’re going with it, before they are able to fully apply it. That being said, practice is very important, especially with the more fundamental building blocks of computation and algebra.
Outside of tutoring, I am a very busy guy with many hobbies. I am a performer in a locally renown improv comedy troupe; I am an actor in short films and theatre; I play video games; I read science fiction and fantasy novels. I am also a large consumer of movies and television - Netflix is one of my best friends. Ultimately, I like liking things, and that certainly includes learning.
