I went to Prep School at Phillips Academy Andover, and then studied Anthropology at the University of Southern California and Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

I've been tutoring since high school, ages 14-18 in French and Latin, as well as ages 4-14 in Writing, Reading and Math. Currently, I'm working with students ages 4, 5, 9 and 13 in Reading, Writing and Math, though I really enjoy tutoring the languages as well. I'm working with some of these students specifically on test prep, to prepare for the ELA and Math State Tests this spring.

I also have experience teaching ESL - I taught English and elementary Math in India for 6 months and it was a very rewarding experience.

My favorite hobbies include rock climbing, photography, and reading for pleasure. I'm a big fan of the outdoors, and like to go hiking and swimming whenever I can. I also enjoy art, especially sculpture, pottery, and collage, and working with photos whenever I can.

My teaching philosophy revolves heavily around openness and creativity. I think that when learning it's okay to make mistakes sometimes, but that we need to be willing to look at those areas to see where we can improve. I see mistakes as an opportunity for me to teach the concepts in a different way, and I like to work creatively to find a teaching method that works for every student. With younger students especially, I think it's important to incorporate play into the learning process to foster a love of learning.

My favorite part about tutoring is getting to know the students I'm working with - I'm enthusiastic, positive and encouraging, and very patient. I'm happy to work with students who are struggling for as long as they need to help them grasp a concept. Watching their confidence grow is the greatest reward for me.
