I am a graduate of California state schools. I earned my Bachelors degree in Liberal Studies. After studying in Spain, I returned to San Diego State University where I worked for my Multiple Subjects teaching credential in bilingual/bicultural Spanish. At California State University Long Beach, I obtained my Masters in Educational Administration and a Single Subject Credential for teaching high school Spanish. I have taught public school, grades K-8 in a variety of subjects. I feel comfortable tutoring curriculum across the board K-5. For middle and high school, I am most adept in the areas of language: Spanish and English. Tutoring a few students in English has been my most recent experience. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching first year Spanish to middle school students for four years. I’ve also had the novel experience of teaching English as a second language to university freshman females in Saudi Arabia!
While some educators might disagree, I believe that the most effective learning happens when students have fun in the process. Granted, every aspect of a subject won’t always be entertaining, but I consider it my job as an educator that in addition to teaching the mundane aspects of language, that I am continually looking for strategies that make learning easier/fun for the learner. I believe there’s no better forum for this type of learning than the opportunity to teach one-on-one as the relationship that can be built around the tutee’s own personal likes and dislikes can further his/her connection to learning as the tutor builds lessons geared toward improved language acquisition.
Having visited twenty countries outside of the U.S., I’ve been blessed to have some of those highlighted places include regions of Africa, Australia and the Middle East. Locally, I enjoy snowboarding, skiing and ice skating. Another hobby of mine is karaoke. I also get a kick out of including singing in my language programs!
