I love working one-on-one with students to capitalize on their strengths and target personalized areas for improvement. I have tutored high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in Essay Construction and Editing, Grammar and Mechanics, Legal Research and Writing, test prep, and Public Speaking. I am a graduate of Duke University, where I received my BA in Literature and International Comparative Studies. After completing two years at Tulane University School of Law, I recently made the decision to put my legal studies on hold to pursue two of my greatest passions, teaching and writing. I am eager to share my strategies for success, and surprise students with their own potential.
My most recent tutoring experience was serving as an Assistant Coach for Topeka High School’s Debate and Forensics department. As a grateful alumna of the program, I had the privilege of working with students to craft and perfect pre-written speeches, in addition to helping them prepare for extemporaneous presentations. Many of the methods I used to help students practice for interschool competitions mirror my approaches to test preparation and essay writing. When tutoring a student individually, I find it valuable to formulate a working conception of the larger task at hand, then break the project down to its manageable, predictable components. One of the simplest ways to improve performance on any undertaking is to minimize uncertainty by mastering an understanding of what is expected and required to achieve an articulated goal. As a tutor, I have been successful at helping students develop a tailored, practical approach to their academic pursuits.
On a post-secondary level, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for several courses at Duke University. In this capacity, I edited, revised, and graded undergraduate student writing assignments, and engaged in extracurricular mentoring to improve students’ research and writing abilities. While at Tulane Law, I was selected by law school faculty to serve as a Senior Fellow for the first-year Legal Research and Writing course, and was elected Senior Managing Editor of the Tulane Environmental Law Journal. My extensive commitment to the Journal elevated both my aptitude in and passion for editorial work and collaborative projects.
Having spent the past eight years living in Durham, North Carolina; New York, NY; Barcelona, Spain; Charleston, South Carolina; and New Orleans, Louisiana, I am truly enjoying being back home in Kansas with my family and friends. In addition to reading and writing, I love cooking, outdoor adventures including hiking, canoeing, camping, and rock climbing, and playing with my dog, Jasper.
