I graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy from UC Santa Cruz, where I also studied Opera Performance. I plan to earn a Masters in Vocal Performance and a PhD in Philosophy.
I had the opportunity to gain a lot of tutoring experience at UCSC, where I worked as a group tutor for Intro Logic, an Instructional Assistant for Logic, Numbers, and Emotions, and a Discussion Section Leader and Grading Assistant for Philosophy of Science.
I spent my entire undergraduate career writing papers, so I specialize in tutoring writing, essay writing, grammar, literature, and composition. I've had a lot of experience with performance and public speaking, so I specialize in that as well. Philosophy was my major, so, of course, I love to tutor Philosophy!
It's hard to pick a favorite subject to tutor, I love all of the subjects I tutor!
My tutoring philosophy involves helping students learn how to help themselves. I show my students strategies that will help them hone their process, whether it's paper writing, or coming up with the right answer to a logic problem, improving their work, and empowering them for the rest of their lives. I always bring energy and enthusiasm to a tutoring session. I love the subjects I tutor and I know my students can love the subject too; it's all about perspective. Empowerment is key; my strategy is about helping students find the attitude and tools that will lead to success!
I have a wide range of interests and love to connect with all sorts of people. I'm a singer; I grew up doing musical theater, then jazz, and now opera. I also love the outdoors: rock climbing, hiking, back packing, and going to the beach. I love to cook and I recently got into molecular gastronomy, which is the chemistry of the kitchen! I love action movies and sci-fi and fantasy books. I love travel and just returned from three months in Europe. I love learning other languages and other subjects besides Philosophy, like Physics, Biology, Neuroscience, Linguistics, and Computer Science. I am currently learning French, Calculus, and programming in Python. I also love puzzles and riddles of all kinds!
Most of all, I want to bring out the best in my students. I know that putting ourselves into our school work makes our work, and our experience, better and more meaningful. I also love to see that smile on a student's face when he or she achieves a goal that seemed insurmountable. I strive to make the tutoring experience fun and effective.
