I am a graduate of Occidental College, where I received by BA in music (with a minor in sociology) and tackled a LOT of academic writing. My musical background means I'm a creative thinker who's always willing to explore new ideas and pathways to success. Since graduation, I've worked as a teaching assistant and copy editor, meaning I'm comfortable with all types of writing--from high school English papers to PhD dissertations. I have a sharp (it's been called "freakish") eye for grammar and mechanics, but most enjoy helping students make their writing more analytical, compelling, and organized.
I tutor everything under the English/writing umbrella, from SAT prep to public speaking, and am most passionate about essay editing and research papers. I love the heavy lifting that goes into any writing project--close reading, archival research, solidifying a thesis--and can inspire that same drive in my students. Academic writing doesn't have to be stale; at its best, it's persuasive and vibrant, and I'm all about helping students get there.
When I'm not tutoring, you can find me arranging music for a cappella groups, doing crossword puzzles (a natural outlet for a word nerd), and watching far too many musicals, documentaries, and improv shows.
