I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. After working in the corporate world analyzing data and creating pricing applications and websites for two years, I attended Stanford University where I received a Masters in Education. For six years, I taught Mathematics from Basic Math through Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus at a public high school in San Francisco unified working with both English language learners and mainstream students. My ability to speak Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese) as well as some Spanish came in handy working with recent immigrants. I also worked with a countless number of students outside of class on academic subjects, including Math, English, and Science as well as assisting students with applying to college (transcript reviews, personal statements, applications, financial aid, and scholarships). Additionally, I got to know my students better through coaching tennis and badminton as well as sponsoring a number of student clubs. I can tutor all levels of math from Elementary Math through Trigonometry, including Middle School Math, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Algebra 3/4. My teaching philosophy is that students learn best and come to deeper understanding of concepts through exploration and the ability to verbalize their thought process. To this end, I focus on assisting students by patiently asking questions to help guide their thinking and using manipulatives and/or technology where appropriate rather than telling them step by step what to do. I also recognize that each student is unique and has his/her own learning style, so I try to modify what and how I teach to best suit the student's learning style. Outside of the education realm, I enjoy hiking, cooking, reading, playing badminton, and challenging myself with new activities and hobbies since learning is a lifelong activity.
