I graduated from California State University of Northridge in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chicano Studies with an Emphasis in Social Science. I worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District from 2004-2010. During this time I gained one-to-one experience in working with children from K-12 grade. Most of my time I worked with students with special needs. I have a lot of patience and experience working with students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and those with behavior problems. I am fluent in Spanish since I am a native speaker as well as having studied it in school taking AP Spanish Literature along with taking both AP Spanish Literature and AP Spanish Language Exams and passing both successfully. I also worked with another tutoring company from 2010-2013 before switching to Varsity Tutors which only strengthened my skills as a tutor. In addition, I have various private students that I have been tutoring for a couple of years and they are all at grade level in school and some are even above grade level. I like to implement various tools including technology such as learning tablets to help my students understand. Most of my students love my style of teaching because I make it different and fun for them. I feel it is very important to make kids love to learn and study and that is exactly what I do. I want my students to want to study when they don't have to and I always like to assign some homework to reinforce my lessons. I truly enjoy what I do because I empower my students to feel good about themselves; I love to see them smile when they successfully understand something they have been struggling with. I help students not only raise their knowledge but also their self-esteem and that is an amazing accomplishment for both the tutor and student.
