The English-language arts skill-set of critical reading, note-taking, speaking/listening, and persuasive, effective writing cross over all academic subject areas, and are thus invaluable.
During the last ten years, I have a demonstrated track record of effectively assisting students succeed in their academic classes as well as on their college personal statements and SAT essays.
I believe it is both a privilege and a responsibility for me to pass on to students what has been passed on to me by fabulous, inspirational teachers, professors, and professionals. These individuals have helped me find my voice as a professional writer, gain the confidence and skills needed to succeed in college, in graduate school, and in the work place, achieve a vigorous, robust liberal arts education, a Master's degree in Literature, professional experience as an editor, news writer, fiction writer, and screenplay writer, and as an English-language arts teacher at the middle school, secondary, and college levels.
My style of teaching is one that tends to build on a student's interests and strengths, anchored in their learning goals. My tutoring sessions are engaging, productive, and confidence-building. Students learn new skills and techniques that make learning easier and more fun. I look forward with alacrity to helping students overcome challenges and to meeting their learning goals.
