I am an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, pursuing my BA in Applied Math concentrating on Numerical Analysis. As an immigrant from China, I possess a strong quantitative background and fluency in Chinese. Math has always been my favorite subject because it is a universal language. It is a powerful tool that allows people around the world to communicate. Upon arriving in the United States, my leadership and background reflected on the role of being a Co-President of SHINES, a tutoring club, in High School. During the period of presidency, I had tutored my fellow classmates in Math and Science to inspire and motivate them. With that experience, I am very comfortable working with middle school or high school students. My style of tutoring mostly reflects on guiding the students towards the correct way of analyzing. Instead of giving away ideas directly, I tend to question the students so they notice the critical ingredients for solving the problem. Therefore, they can develop a habit of questioning themselves on the information given to successfully attack the problem. It will be a crucial skill to have when encountering harder problems. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, practicing magic tricks, and listening to music. I also love to go back to China because the food there is great.
