I am currently working towards a Ph.D. degree in Spanish-American literature at UCLA. I have been teaching Spanish for more than ten years, and my experience has been mostly at the college level, but I have also taught in both public and private high schools. As far as my tutoring experience, I have had the chance to work with people of all ages, ranging from pre-K children in after-school programs to adults seeking to maintain their skills in the Spanish language.
I grew up in Lima, Peru and am thus a native speaker of Spanish. I also have a background in linguistics and hold a B.A. degree in Linguistics and Spanish as well a M.A. degree in Spanish, all from UCLA. Therefore, I pay equal attention to both the form and structure of formal Spanish and the more creative ways in which to use the language. I also believe that learning about the many cultures of the Spanish-speaking world helps students to become more interested in the language itself.
I enjoy working with students of all ages and work patiently with them to achieve their educational goals. I do my best to find and accommodate each student’s learning style, which will hopefully translate into a steady improvement of the four basic Spanish language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
In my free time, I enjoy singing karaoke, taking Zumba classes, reading and listening to all kinds of music. I also like to explore the city and take photographs of the vast multicultural, architectural and gastronomic landscapes that Los Angeles has to offer us all.
