I am a high school teacher with 12 years of experience. I have taught various sections of high school Mathematics, including Advanced Math I and II, as well as middle school Science. I am also a college professor and have taught Western Humanities at Montclair State University and Russian History at NYU.
Besides an ABD Ph.D. in Earth Science from Moscow University, which I graduated summa cum laude, I hold an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from New England College. I conducted creative writing seminars and gave talks, lectures, and readings at various universities, both in the US and in Europe, most recently at Harvard, Oxford, and Sussex universities.
I teach both math and verbal sections of the SAT, ACT, GRE, and other standardized tests. My teaching is always focused on the individual student and his/her specific learning needs. I would be especially interested in a tutoring opportunity that involves academic/study skills advising and coaching.
I have passed the Praxis Mathematics certification exams with a Certificate of Excellence (top 15%) and hold two NJ teacher's certificates. In 1997, I was awarded the Geraldine R. Dodge Fellowship Award for alternate route teachers.
I am a bilingual poet and translator, the author of seven books of poetry, publisher, journal editor, and recipient of several literary awards, including the First Prize in the 2012 Joseph Brodsky/Stephen Spender Translation Prize international competition.
