I am an undergraduate in my final year at Washington University. I have been facilitating ACT prep sessions since 2007. Tutoring has continued to be a great experience for me and my aim is to contribute to making my clients' experiences enjoyable as well. Previously to working with Varsity Tutors, I tutored elementary students in reading, math, and state assessment tests at a local St. Louis school, as well as peer-tutoring in high school.
My favorite teaching style, especially for middle/high school students, resembles the Socratic method, especially in math. I try to challenge my students by asking them questions to which they already know the answers, but doing so in a way so that I can be sure that they understand the underlying concepts and so that they can see how new material builds upon those concepts that are already understood.
My goals for every tutoring session is for my clients to learn something that they didn't know, understand the logic behind something they already knew, but couldn't explain why or how, and gain confidence in their ability to ultimately succeed when they are on their own.
