Tutoring review by Neil in Somers Point, NJ
The student and I had a great session. He has an algebra 2 test on Tuesday, so we spent most of the time working through several review problems. We talked about graphing rational functions, finding asymptotes, and intercepts. We also worked through several problems involving finding the inverse of logarithmic functions. In chemistry, we talked about the kinetic molecular theory and discussed how this theory applies to the different states of matter. I will be emailing the student some practice problems to work on before our next session! We are scheduled for 2/14 at 11am.

In PreCalc we primarily covered applications of sinusoidal problems (Ferris wheel, high and low tides repeating, etc.). The student was comfortable graphing for the most part, although sometimes was mixed up with using +/- functions versus having a phase shift offset. He additionally had some trouble finding the repeating times on a cosine function, but we reviewed this thoroughly. He overall seemed comfortable with the basics of all six basic trig functions, and did well on his last quiz. I briefly covered respiration for biology, including the 3 main components of aerobic respiration, fermentation, and lactic acid production.

Yesterday, the student and I began chapter 7 in preparation for his final unit of the semester. He has not gotten back the midterm for chapter 6 yet but will bring it to my attention when he does. Chapter 7 discusses testing and introduces further purposes of the z-scores. With introduction and explanation of the formulas, he was confident in completing the problem types.

Tutoring review by Leora-Dona in Somers Point, NJ
This session was focused on preparing for the student's final exams in math and Spanish. We started with math by correcting some of the review pack problems he had done on his own and then finishing the second sheet of the packet together. We then moved on to the Spanish review, which was quite an extensive packet. We were able to complete 2 sections of this packet and discuss how he would complete a 3rd section. He had some trouble with using the correct gender for adjectives (el persona instead of la persona), so I had to remind him of the rules to determine masculinity or femininity in any word. The other work that he had done on his own was correct, leading me to believe that he is well prepared for this exam.
