Today we focused on bar graphs for the majority of our session. I had the student answer questions and interpret the graphs and also use data to create her own graphs. She did really well and seemed to enjoy the work. We also continued to work on linear equations and using them to graph lines, find slope, and answer questions. I guided her through calculating the slope of a line using two sets of coordinates as well as how to see if a given line runs through a point without graphing it. I will keep practicing these techniques with her. She also mentioned that they have begun a new unit in class, geometry. I will bring worksheets that focus on angles and other beginning geometry concepts to keep her challenged.

The student and I covered topics regarding angles and arcs of a circle. This included circumscribed and inscribed angles. We also looked at tangent lines and the role these play within the circle. The problems that we worked on involved solving for angle and arc measures in a variety of situations given various starting measurements. We also worked on a proof. We will continue this topic on Tuesday, so until then, I left him to continue working through the review packet.

He had no real trouble with the simplification.

Tutoring review by Chris in Runnemede, NJ
The student and I had our first session going over SAT math. We spent our time going over basics. There were no areas that he thought he needed particular help with, so we worked on practice problems and discussed each one as it became necessary. One of the things that emerged from our problem solving was that he didn't know how the SAT was structured. So we discussed the basics about scoring, appropriate guessing strategies, and how time was a factor during the test. I asked that he procure a typical SAT prep book to help him get acquainted with all the types of topics he'll encounter during the exam. We will also be able to use this to practice problems.
