I went over a couple of upcoming presentations the student will be giving; one on repeated measures one way ANOVA, and the other on multiple regression. I gave the student suggestions, so she is tweaking the presentations to better wow the class.

Tutoring review by Dawn in Rolling Meadows, IL
The student has a test the following day on linear functions. We completed the chapter test problems together. It dealt with graphing piecewise functions, finding their domain and range, using slope intercept form to find equations given slope, y-intercept, two points, parallel equation and a point, or perpendicular equation and a point, using point slope form given two points, creating a scatter plot, finding the line of best fit, and finding residuals from the line of best fit. I then had him retake the test by himself. Prior to the test he needs to read the notes focusing on definition of perpendicular and point-slope form.

Tutoring review by Nathan in Rolling Meadows, IL
We covered how to find the surface area and volume of a variety of polyhedral shapes. The student had a slight weakness with using algebra in a geometry context but he's gotten a lot better and continues to improve. He is very focused and on task, and displays an interest in learning more about the subject.

Tutoring review by Brandon in Rolling Meadows, IL
Today, we emphasized strictly simplifying algebraic expressions and how to divide/multiply/add/subtract complex fractions. The student had the most difficulty in simplifying algebraic expressions that included polynomials. We covered polynomials during one of the first sessions, so he needs to go back and practice factoring out polynomials as well as work on reducing the complex expressions. The homework that he presented me with seemed quite difficult, but I used them as teaching examples, and we were able to get through all the homework. I am very pleased to record that he received a B on his previous exam, which covered all the statistics concepts we worked on together. His teacher also noted on his exam that he showed vast improvement, so I am very excited to see how far he has come.

This was our first session. We focused on basic concepts and definitions, covering the terms used in Chapter 1, and then spent time on a quiz. We wanted to be sure we had a good understanding of concepts in both English and math. A good first meeting!
