Tutoring review by Vanessa in Rohnert Park, CA
Today we solved quadratic equations using the quadratic formula. This is still a new concept for the student, so she is still getting used to applying the formula. Things we will continue to work on will be integer rules (calculations with positives and negatives) and simplifying radicals (square roots). She did well today but I know she will become more familiar with this concept and more comfortable using the formula. She had a positive attitude throughout the session and shared that she felt her Social Studies test that we prepared for last session went well. I'm hoping we will be able to practice using the quadratic formula at our next session but overall very good.

Concepts covered included conic sections, volume and density. The student attitude's was positive about learning the review for the exam since he wants a high grade for the exam. I left him to finish the few homework problems that were left and to study the properties of shapes.

The student and I worked on human anatomy today. We talked about the endocrine and exocrine systems and the various hormones that are related to them. We discussed the pituitary glands in the hypothalamus and how they function in our homeostasis.

Tutoring review by Charles in Rohnert Park, CA
This was our introductory meeting. The student had emailed me 12 documents and it is apparent that she is understanding concepts and the basics of Chemistry in the first two chapters. Her difficulty seems to surround the mathematical concepts of converting units (such as cm to feet), and other conversions. We went through several of those problems as well as other multiple choice example questions and the principles and properties of the periodic table.

Tutoring review by Adam in Rohnert Park, CA
I had my first session with Student 1 and her brother Student 2 on October 3rd. I am attempting to tutor both students within one 2 hour session. I believe that this is the arrangement that will work out best for all involved. Since it was our first meeting, I was working to figure out which areas were going to need the most focus for both students. It seems as though both children, especially Student 1, are ahead in math, and that reading and writing will require the most focus. Student 2 and I worked on writing in complete sentences and translating thoughts into sentences. Oftentimes, it seemed as though he knew the words he wanted to write, and merely didn't know how to spell them. I helped him figure out the little spelling differences between words such as "kick" and "kicked." He knew to use the perfect tense, but merely didn't know how to spell it. Moving forward, this and reading will be my focus with him. As far as Student 1 is concerned, she mostly worked on her division problems, and after being shown her mistake on one was able to correct them herself. Judging by this, and by the fact that she loves to read but doesn't know how to properly write about her reading, she and I will move forward by trying to write and formulate opinions, summaries, and arguments on what she has read and is currently reading. In the future, I plan to structure sessions in a more constructive manner, working with each student individually for several minutes, giving them work to do, and then switching to their sibling. This allows the students to develop the habit of working independently and also allows them to receive little breaks during the long session length.

Tutoring review by Brianna in Rohnert Park, CA
The student and I worked mostly on Social Studies. He had a review sheet to fill out so he worked on answering those questions. He remembered most answers from class and we searched the internet for others. Even the answers he seemed unsure of were turning out to be correct, showing he had grasped what he was taught in class very well. He got a math test grade back and got 1 of the 3 of the best grades in his class. He understands fractions very well and is becoming more confident in the subject.
