Recent Robbinsdale Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Zach in Robbinsdale, MN
Today was another solid session with this student. We continued our review of order of operations and introduced division problems in the context of the other operations. He picked it up fairly well, although he still has some questions mostly with questions involving difficult signage (variety of positive and negative signs). I think a combination of more practice problems and a more detail oriented workflow will help him with this. We finished the session with an introduction to algebra which he seemed very excited about. He asks great questions and loves a challenge - two great qualities to have as a math student.

Tutoring review by Rebecca in Robbinsdale, MN
The students were preparing for a quiz tomorrow in Algebra 2 that focused on two-variable, two-equation problems; function computation; and three-variable, three equation problems. Student 1 felt very confident on the function computation problems. With a little review of two-variable, two-equation solutions, they were both correctly solving the problems. The students weren't as confident with three-variable, three equation problems, so we spent the last 45 minutes with examples of those problems.

Tutoring review by Rachel in Robbinsdale, MN
This was our first session. After going over the course syllabus with her, I helped the student with her homework assignment for the night. Specifically, this assignment covered evolution in the context of homologous and analogous structures. She seemed on top of her course work and able to comprehend the information. She needed a little bit of help with questions asking for "evolutionary examples," but after I provided a few she understood what the question was referring to.

Tutoring review by Natalya in Robbinsdale, MN
This was my first tutoring session with the student. He had a study guide, and he worked on the problems from it. There were mostly logic problems and proofs to review before the test. He worked well. I liked that he wrote out properties of equality for himself. It was nice to meet him. I hope he will do well on the test.

Tutoring review by Lynne in Robbinsdale, MN
The student had started a new section on inverse functions in preparation for logs, the inverse function of exponents. We worked on inverses of linear functions, quadratic functions, and inverses of graphs of piecewise functions. She also had some composite functions of functions and their inverses. The review material consisted of rational exponents and equivalent expressions and finding equations of exponential functions given 2 points. She has a good handle on the inverses of functions and knows how to find them.
