Tutoring review by Ariele in Radnor, PA
Met with the student to look over her score report from her April SAT on which she did very well on writing and math, but would like to pick up her critical reading score from a 580. She says she'll be out of town June 4, so she'd like to take the October 1 test. We worked a variety of reading passages, emphasizing the main idea relating to each question and furthering her grasp of the answer choices by underlining the "point" of each choice. This really helped her, and I encourage her to mark up the passages and answer choices even more than she has been and jot down quick notes wherever there is a complex idea or convoluted question so she can compare each answer choice to her anticipated answer. With some regular practice on her own this summer (we discussed completing a couple tests and sending them in to generate a score report), she can certainly boost her critical reading score in the fall.

We went how to find the real zeros of a polynomial, and how to write a polynomial in factored form.  The student did two practice problems I gave him at the end of the session a lot faster and with more confidence than the homework problems we started with at the beginning of the session.

Tutoring review by Kalie in Radnor, PA
I went over the student's practice writing sample, and in the 25 minutes, she did not finish the essay. Based off of this, we went over some time- cutting skills and we practice again to try and finish the paper in the 25 minutes. She was much closer to being done this time, and I think she is having the hardest time trying to put a historical or literature reference in the essay. I encouraged her that it was not necessary to have those things and that it would be better for her to have a complete and organized essay rather than an incomplete one that started to talk about an outside reference.   I gave her two more writing prompts to practice with, and next session we will review those as well as get back into the reading comprehension practice.

We began this session by working on comprehension.  This was followed by our work on developing possible solutions to a picture cue.  Again, the student demonstrated outstanding creative thinking!  Finally, we worked on fluency.  Way to go on great work!

Tutoring review by Susan in Radnor, PA
The student brought his first draft of a four-page essay for his business writing course. While I read aloud his essay to him, he started noticing some errors, so he was able to go back and revise some of his errors on his own. The other errors he had in word choice, grammar, and sentence structure I coached him on, and then he was able to fix them by himself. I think he is improving from his first session with me because I am noticing that he is able to catch many of his own errors now in word choice, grammar, and sentence structure. His abilities in developing content and organization are excellent.

A great session! I was able to help the student with reading her French mystery and answering comprehension skills, using context clues and strategies to find the answer and help with correcting a French quiz. We both decided it was a good fit and will have future online tutoring sessions!
