Today we covered linear combinations. He mastered the material by the end of the session and only struggled with carrying signs over and minor mistakes in arithmetic. This math doesn't come particularly naturally to him, but he is motivated and learns from his mistakes. With the proper amount of practice he will do very well in this course

Tutoring review by Travis in Placitas, NM
The student and I began working on his review packet for his final exam next week, which will cover all material in the curriculum since the beginning of the semester in January. We focused on the material that was most challenging, such as graphing polynomial equations and solving polynomial equations. We also reviewed different factoring formulas and how to use these in order to solve or simplify rational expressions. The most challenging part was working with and identifying complex and imaginary numbers and how to simplify rational expressions that involved putting them into standard form by multiplying by the conjugate.

Tutoring review by Sarah in Placitas, NM
The student's mother told me that she got a 90 on the summer reading assignment! Today she worked on her homework. We started with science which is measurement. She had to give the different measurements that were marked on a ruler. We then worked on a social studies assignment which she had to use the book to find answers. She also worked on understanding a poem that her teacher sent home and said they would be working on the next day. She divided it into the different stanzas and then had to write in her own words what she thought the author meant in each stanza.

Tutoring review by John in Placitas, NM
The student had some success to report. He got a 98% on his unit test; he believes it is the highest grade in the class. Even the 2 points taken off were not because he had any wrong answers; he just had to simplify one step further. Now he has his confidence back, and I pointed out that he definitely belongs in this class at this advanced level. Tonight, we looked at his current homework and at the upcoming chapter. We worked through problems where we added and subtracted negative numbers. We then did a little English homework to round out the evening, and we will be back on Thursday for some more integers.
