Tutoring review by Danielle in Pine Hill, NJ
The student and I reviewed surface area of 3-dimensional figures and discussed strategies for showing her work and keeping it organized. We reviewed similar figures and also discussed strategies for keeping her work organized when setting up proportions. She and I began a list of things she needs to remember for upcoming tests and quizzes. We also supplemented some practice through the test prep website.

Tutoring review by Brian in Pine Hill, NJ
This was the first session with the student. He is taking an advanced math course and wants help with an upcoming test on coordinate geometry. He is an intelligent student and is able to work through problems. However, the material is very dense and how to solve the problem is not always immediately evident. We worked through a problem set he was given, solving and manipulating linear equations. He had some difficulty with the algebra involved. Additionally, he occasionally lost focus and his note taking was somewhat disorganized. Overall, he did well. It is apparent that he will need to put in a lot of time for this course. We will meet again on Monday to continue the review.

Tutoring review by Art in Pine Hill, NJ
The student and I spent tonight's session reviewing for his test, which will be tomorrow. The test will be on all of the subjects that we have covered so far in our sessions. We spent the majority of the session practicing everything that he will need to know about quadratics. This includes factoring, completing the square, finding the solutions via graphing, graphing the quadratics, the quadratic formula, and axis of symmetry/vertex. I was very impressed with him, and I feel that he must have done some studying. He was answering every single question with confidence, and the errors that he made were mostly losing track of positive/negative signs, and other minor mistakes. The only thing that he needed a little review with was completing the square, but after a few questions he was back where he needed to be. I feel that he is very prepared for this test, and we talked about how he might want to warm up a little bit with some practice problems beforehand, but will otherwise be ready to go. We also covered a little bit of his new chapter, which is interpreting graphs, but we only spent about 10 minutes on this material.

Tutoring review by Benjamin in Pine Hill, NJ
Today we reviewed quadratic function forms and how to most easily find special points or from points derive a formula for the function. The student will have the opportunity to retake her last test tomorrow, so I also left some problems for her to review tomorrow before school in preparation for that. Her primary problem is remembering to switch the sign when a number is inside parenthesis with the x. After many example problems, she finally got the hang of it.

Both students worked on a worksheet for spelling. The objective was to be able to guess which word was spelled correctly in the sentence. Student A had to read the sentence and guess the correct word. Both students then used the computer to play reading games. They did very well today.
