Tutoring review by Randy in Park City, UT
We covered finding equivalent fractions, multiplying fractions, multiplying fractions with visual representations, pie graphs, line graphs, bar graphs, Multiplication drills mixed and 9's. The student seemed to enjoy the material, even when it was new or challenging. I encouraged her to read each math question carefully before answering, and to make sure she understood what part of the data was to be presented as the answer. I left her with extra practice in multiplying fractions visually, reading graphs and a math maze to solve using factors of 5.

Tutoring review by Chris in Park City, UT
The student is getting ready for a quiz on Monday. Her quiz will be over applying all the properties of the different types of quadrilaterals. She was working on a worksheet where she had to classify the figure based on the given information. She was using her notes to classify, and she did a good job. She was also able to solve the problems involving setting up an equation using the different properties. After she finished this, I went over with her how to prove or disprove a given figure on a coordinate plane is a parallelogram using the slope formula or distance formula. She did a great job on the distance formula. However, she struggled on the first slope formula problem. After talking through this one, I gave her a second example of it, which she did a good job on.

The student and I reviewed what we accomplished last week. Using the Mathboard, I gave him some practice problems with simplifying binomials expressions. We first started off with some practice condensing expressions and then moved onto binomial fractions. Next, I wanted to introduce to him the FOIL method when simplifying trinomial expressions from two binomial ones. I will send his mother a study guide with the FOIL method for him to review!

Tutoring review by Alexa in Park City, UT
This session, the student and I first worked on her homework assignment, which she did very well. After, we started from the basics of fractions to build her foundation. We went through adding and subtracting fractions (with like and unlike denominators). I explained the concepts, wrote practice problems for her, and she completed them. We then moved on to multiplication and division of fractions, and she completed all of the practice problems. In order to integrate the concepts we had just gone over, I wrote practice problems that involved fractions within proportion problems and asked her to solve for x. She did a great job completing these. The hope behind this lesson is that these foundational concepts will help make problem-solving faster and easier for her.

Tutoring review by Kristopher in Park City, UT
Similar to our previous session the student and I reviewed questions for an assignment that focused on probability theory. He forwarded the questions and some of his answers prior to the session so that I would have an opportunity to review them before we met. There were a few errors with a couple of the questions. We reviewed why these were mistakes and he appeared to understand the error in his calculations. The last question in this assignment was perhaps the most challenging of the questions that we reviewed. This question was related to how one determines if events are independent. He was quick to point out that there are a few different formulas that one can apply to answer this particular question. We talked about meeting again this coming week to review questions. The sessions are going well and the student overall appears to have a good grasp of most of the material.
