Tutoring review by Chris in Ocean Shores, WA
We covered determinants and Cramer's Rule. I showed the student how to determine determinants in an easy to remember way. I also taught him how to break it down into steps in order to reduce the amount of errors. He had a very positive attitude towards the material. He has the rest of his homework to complete as practice.

Tutoring review by Gwendolyn in Ocean Shores, WA
This week, the student and I spent the tutoring period going over the DBQ essay that she is working on for her class. Specifically, we went over the details of writing an APUSH DBQ essay, how to write a good thesis statement, and then we looked at the specific prompt she had and went over all of the documents. By the end of the session, she was drawing some pretty good generalizations from the readings and highlighting the main points, and she can work on getting better at drawing inferences (which we intend on working on next week). One of the best ways to work on drawing these inferences is to continue to do the reading in the textbook and to also look at the outlines for the chapters that exist on the APUSH notes website (as they draw on general themes). For the next session, I will be pulling examples from documents so she can practice drawing out the main themes and making inferences.

The student and I discussed his forecasting homework assignment. We went over how to use the Moving Average and Exponential functions in the Data Analysis Add-In tool. We also used the TREND() Excel function and then evaluated the different models using the MAE statistic. We will meet again tomorrow afternoon to continue work on another forecasting analysis problem set.

The student has started learning long division in class and does find it difficult, especially since she has not completely mastered her multiplication tables yet. However, this is a great way for her to see how important multiplication is in performing other mathematical operations such as division. We learned and practiced the steps of long division with simple problems. We will continue to go over these in future sessions.
