We started with another backpack check and monitored his progress in use of his organization systems. The student did share that in two of his classes, he is not allowed to bring in his entire backpack, so he forgot to bring his planner into those classes one day. I checked in on homework completion and organization, and then we moved to work on reading comprehension. We continued with the SQ3R procedure (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review). This helps to increase comprehension by having students preview texts and activate prior knowledge, ask a question, then read with the intention of answering the question, evaluating the validity of the question, sharing answers, and then reviewing the whole process and how it went. We then moved to a quick outlining technique to help him develop a concise thesis for his writing. We finished with a review of concepts that he is covering in geometry: planes, lines, and points. In the coming week, we will work on outlining.
