In our session we covered graphs of functions including end behavior as well as determining the number of minimums, maximums and zeros. This was done primarily by looking at equations of odd or even functions and being able to determine what the function would look like related to those characteristics. We also continued this process using the graphing calculator to work through a few examples to view and determine mins, max and end behavior. As we worked through the examples there was also many instances where it was required to utilize some factoring skills to determine the zeros of a function mathematically. My goal will be to continue practicing these skills as she needs to continue to develop her skills in algebra as well.

Tutoring review by Dana in Mountlake Terrace, WA
The student and I enjoyed another very good lesson. This week, he and two classmates are working on a project on a famous art museum. To that end, we talked about the museum for a few minutes, looking together at it on Google Earth and talking about its enormous collection. We then returned to the textbook, in anticipation of material soon to be studied. We then covered the Vocabulaire 1, including expressions for agreeing and disagreeing with another's likes and dislikes; the definite articles le/la/l'/les and their uses; and the present tense of the verb aimer. He successfully worked through three exercises on this material, and when it becomes "official" -- presumably next week -- he will have an excellent head start.

We reviewed the quadratic formula, solving for x, word problems with quadratic equations, and solving by substitution. The student maintained a positive attitude and was engaged in the material. I feel confident in the progress that the student made and how he will perform on his exam tomorrow.
