The student and I reviewed the homework I had given her from the previous day. She correctly answered 9/10 questions. We reviewed concepts from the homework together before she was given a 20 point mastery test. On the mastery test she received a score of 19/20. The more practice she receives, the more I her improve solving the problems.

Tutoring review by Padraic in Midlothian, IL
The student and I continued working through assignments from his calculus class during our session. The first of these assignments covered the topic of calculating the volume of a solid of revolution. He and I first drew out a sketch of each region, and then determined what the radius of the solid would be if this region were rotated about the x axis. Using the formula for the integral needed to calculate the volume of a solid of revolution, we plugged the determined radius in and calculated the volume of each solid. The student understood the process very well and carried out each integral correctly to get the answer. The next assignment introduced the concept of average value, for which we used integrals to determine the average value of a function over a given interval. Once he learned the appropriate formula, he applied it very easily to each problem and obtained the correct answers for all of his average value problems.

We covered how to find derivatives using the chain rule, product rule, and quotient rule. I challenged the student by giving him examples that require all rules for one problem. He was struggling the most with implicit differentiation. I thoroughly explained implicit differentiation and how to find the slope and equation of the tangent line.

Tutoring review by Megan in Midlothian, IL
Today, the student and I reviewed for her upcoming test. We reviewed logs, exponents, solving equations with both, and graphing both. She has a fairly strong understanding of this knowledge but just missed a few steps in certain problems. We reviewed the conceptual portion of determining domain and range so she can solve all problems her teacher will give her. She also struggled particularly with substitution to solve exponential quadratic problems.
