Tutoring review by Lauren in Marlborough, MA
Today we covered the passe compose using avoir. We conjugated avoir in the present tense and then went over many different verbs that take avoir in the past tense. We talked about how to put these words into sentences and also using expressions that are helpful in referring to the past. We also practiced putting these verbs into the negative and passe compose. We went over how to form interrogative sentences. I introduced using the expression, Il fait, when describing the weather: il fait beau. And we ended our session with a listening comprehension conversation from Learn French by Podcast, episode 11, which focused on the weather and the past tense! The student is doing great and I wish her the best of luck tomorrow on her test!

The main goal was preparing for the student's upcoming Algebra II test. We looked at graphing systems of inequalities, and word problems. The word problems were the biggest challenge, which is normal. I tried to emphasize the approach of defining/ organizing the variables "write down what you know." We then quickly discussed naming acids for chemistry. We finished off with some practice factoring.

The student and I studied for her math exam and completed questions from her review packet. We studied graphs, linear equations, slope, intercepts, and other concepts. We also studied for her literature test by reviewing quotes from "To Kill a Mockingbird." We went over her vocabulary word list and looked up unfamiliar words, studied synonyms and antonyms, came up with mnemonics where appropriate, and I quizzed her on the definitions.
