Tutoring review by Tessa in Lynchburg, VA
For language art studies, the student's school has started a unit on poetry, for which he has shown no liking. However, he does enjoy music to a great extent. To make poetry more interesting, we looked at four poetic songs to explicate the lyrics. We discussed imagery, voice and metaphor. He did very well although discussing poetry seems to ignite a natural resistance within him. I asked him today if he would play some games at home to practice English skills. I would like to recommend some apps/ games for his phone that might not seem as much like homework for him.

Good session with the student. He brought news of a perfect score on his Algebra test! We did geometry problems this session - using trigonometry to find heights of triangles so we can properly calculate the area. We then extended this to regular polygons. Nice work!

Tutoring review by Flora in Lynchburg, VA
We went through the concept of conic sections, including all possible section cuts through a cone and how that translates into different shapes and equations. We spent most of the time on visualizing each cut so that he could have a concrete understanding of the meaning and properties of each section and their relative shapes and equations. We used a paper model and a few web pages that better illustrated these concepts. The class ended with quantitative math problems related to today's topic. He is expected to finish the remaining classwork problems by Tuesday and send them to me for review, then continue to finish the homework problems by Thursday evening when we scheduled for the next session.

Tutoring review by Alan in Lynchburg, VA
We worked on general equations of multiple variables. The student did well with solving for the desired variable and was able to use the equations correctly with applied problems. We were able to finish the homework assignment during our session. He did make a few mistakes with the algebra but this is common during the learning process. A little more practice and he should be just fine.

We began our tutoring session by finishing up some vocab exercises in the student's workbook from our previous lesson. I then taught her a lesson on indirect object pronouns. We then worked through several indirect and direct object pronoun exercises in both her Bien Dit! book and workbook.
