Tutoring review by David in Loomis, CA
Both students have both been learning about identifying scale factors and finding missing dimensions given a scale factor. I gave them practice problems dealing with these. Student H had a few problems dividing to find the missing dimension given a scale factor. Student T also had trouble with one of these. They both understood the identifying scale factors problems very well. I had to remind both of them to not forget to include the units in their answers. Their attitudes toward the material we went over today were pretty good. We will work further on these types of problems in future sessions until they are proficient.

Tutoring review by John in Loomis, CA
The student and I reviewed the topics that would be covered on his exam. The first topic that would be covered on the test would be the properties of points, lines, and planes. We saw that any two points are lie on a unique line and that any three noncollinear points lie on a unique plane. I highlighted the fact that these three entities are immeasurable with points not taking any space and lines/ planes being "infinite." We mainly focused on applying the midpoint and distance formulas. We first derived the distance formula by beginning with the Pythagorean theorem and then derived the midpoint formula by realizing that the midpoint is the average of the x and y coordinates of the endpoints. The student was particularly good at finding the distances between points. We worked on different types of midpoint problems where some required finding the midpoints and others required finding the endpoints. To wrap up the session, we reviewed some basic angle definitions (like complementary, line, and vertical angles) and applied the principles in some practice problems to prepare for his exam.

Tutoring review by Anne in Loomis, CA
The student scored a 20/25 on his first quiz. He lost points because he missed a minus sign that affected several pieces of the problems, but overall he is okay with his performance. He is feeling much more comfortable in the class as they proceed and is keeping up with the recitation well. We prepared for the first midterm exam by working through the sample questions provided as well as some questions from the textbook. Topics included functions, continuity, limit laws, and the Sandwich Theorem and Intermediate Value Theorem. He grasped the proper procedure for working through a problem using the IVT very quickly. We also talked about test-taking strategies such as looking over the whole test first, answering questions from easiest to hardest, and portioning time per question based on difficulty.

Today we went over the material that is going to be on the student's quiz tomorrow. She seemed to know the material rather well, and we were able to complete her worksheet that was online for homework. She is quick with her calculations, and her reasoning, logic, arithmetic, and application of concepts were all up to par.
